THE TEAM

OWNER + principal 

TENEILL WILSON     
B.A (DANCE) B.ED / ARAD RTS

 

Teneill was born in Sydney, and spent most of her senior dance training at the McDonald College Performing Arts. At the age of 15, she attended the Prix de Lausanne in Switzerland where she succeeded to the Quarter Finals. From there she was accepted into the National Ballet School of Canada, which she attended the following year. It was here she completed a year and a half of training at the school and was exposed to many performance opportunities, including training with the company and the company's directors.

Upon returning to Australia, Teneill completed her Higher School Certificate and Royal Academy of Dance Teaching Certification. She was then accepted into the Bachelor of Arts Dance/Bachelor of Education Degree at the University of New South Wales where she completed a four year degree in dance and education. As well as gaining professional dance experience at University working with leading choreographers and educational professionals in a variety of genres, she also gained industry experience as a performer on Sydney's Showboat working with leading dancers, singers and choreographers.

Teneill has had extensive experience working at many of Sydney's leading dance studios as well as conducting specialist classes in Ballet, Contemporary and Board of Studies Dance. Some of the places she has worked include; Alegria Dance Studios, Newtown High School of the Performing Arts and Brent Street Studios. As well as choreographing ensembles for Newtown High School of the Performing Arts, Teneill also creates dance works for State Dance Ensembles run by The Arts Unit, which comprises of selected students from across NSW. As a result of this her dance pieces have been performed in Regional and State Dance Festivals since 2010. It was also from this year onwards where Teneill was selected as a Choreographer for the Schools Spectacular specialising in ballet and contemporary. This production has in previous years aired on the ABC and now appears on Chanel 9. Teneill is currently the Head of Brent Street Academy and Ballet at Brent Street Studios in Sydney. 

TEACHERS

Sara Haruta

Sara has a strong passion for dance, starting at the age of four she has trained in all styles of dance and continues to train her craft as she is a part of The Dream Dance Company Show business 2019. Before graduating from ED5international with an Advanced Diploma, she has performed overseas at Disney California, Universal Studios Hollywood and further competing at World Cup Cheer and Dance. She has completed all her exams with RAD Advanced 2, ADA Bar to Gold Star and ADA Supreme Tap. 

 

She has an extensive background in teaching Ballet, Jazz, Tap, Hip Hop, Musical Theatre, Contemporary, Lyrical and Singing. Sara currently performs at Luna Park Sydney and her passion for working with children inspired her to further extend her teaching. She is a dedicated and enthusiastic teacher and performer and is always thrilled for the opportunity to inspire children of all ages and share her knowledge and love for the performing arts.

Sophie Johnson

Sophie is a fully qualified RAD registered ballet teacher. At the age of 18 Sophie was accepted in to the Royal Academy of Dance London, where she studied for 3 years, graduating successfully with a BA (Hons) in Ballet Education. After Sophie’s graduation in London she decided to travel to Australia to extend her teaching career. As a result Sophie now teaches in Sydney for a variety of dance schools.

 

Sophie is looking forward to been apart of Thrive this year and is excited to pass on her knowledge and love of ballet.

Pia Hagberg

Pia has been dancing for 12 years in the styles of contemporary, ballet, lyrical, jazz, broadway and hip hop. After the completion of the HSC, Pia was accepted into numerous institutions such as the Victorian College of the Arts (Melbourne), Transit Dance Centre (Melbourne), and Kibbutz Contemporary Dance Company’s International program (Israel), however, decided to stay in Sydney to complete Sydney Dance Company’s prestigious Pre-Professional Year where she was awarded her diploma in Dance (Elite Performance).

She has also obtained her RAD Advanced 2 from training with Tanya Pearson Classical Coaching Academy. Pia has taught at several Dance Studios in Sydney and is excited to continue her passion for teaching at Thrive this year.
